  1. Open the lease.
  2. Choose the action at the top of the page: Activate, Give notice, End or Cancel.
  3. Enter the end date when asked, and confirm.

Every change is recorded in the audit log, and the webhook events lease.activated and lease.ended are sent when you use webhooks.

Notice and the last month

When you give notice, the lease keeps generating charges until the end date. The last month is prorated by days, so a tenant leaving on the 10th pays for 10 days. See How monthly rent charges are generated.

Charges stop after the end date. When the tenant has moved out, choose End to close the lease.

Important: End takes effect at once: an ended lease generates no more charges, even for days before its end date that have not been charged yet. For an end date in the future, use Give notice and end the lease after the tenant has left. If a month was charged in full before you set the end date, void that charge and add the prorated amount as a rent charge. See Add a one-off charge.

Tip: Give notice as soon as it is received, even months ahead. The unit then shows as notice on the Units page and the dashboard, which tells your team to find the next tenant.

Leases are not deleted

A lease stays on record once it exists, so the history of a unit and a tenant is complete. A draft you no longer need is cancelled. A lease that has run is ended.

Note: Ended and cancelled leases cannot be edited any more.

Important: A lease with entries on its ledger can only be ended, never removed. Charges and payments that were wrong are voided instead. See Void a charge or payment.
