Rent and payments

Record a rent payment

When a tenant pays you, record the amount, the date, the method and the bank reference. EasyHaus applies it to the oldest charges first.

Record a payment

  1. Open the lease, or find it on the Rent page.
  2. Choose Record payment.
  3. Enter the amount and the date the money arrived.
  4. Choose the method: bank transfer, cash, card, direct debit, cheque or other.
  5. Add the reference from your bank statement and a note if you like.
  6. Save. The balance and the arrears update at once.

Every payment is recorded in the audit log and, if you use webhooks, sends the event payment.recorded.

Partial payments and overpayments

  • Record exactly what arrived. A partial payment leaves the rest of the charge owing.
  • Payments and credits are applied to the oldest unpaid charges first. That is how arrears works out how long money has been overdue.
  • If a tenant pays more than they owe, the balance becomes negative, which is a credit in the tenant's favour for the next charges.

Match payments to leases

Give each tenant the payment reference of their lease and ask them to use it on every transfer. When your bank statement arrives, the reference tells you which lease to record the payment on.

Note: EasyHaus does not import bank statements or match payments automatically. Payments are entered by your team.
